ost-Share/Best Management Practices (BMPs)

Cost-share/BMPs are a combination of financial and technical assistance available through the District for the intention of improving soil and water quality.

Cover crops of small grain (wheat, barley, oats) or Abruzzi rye are planted during fallow years in a crop rotation to take up nutrients from the previous crop.  This field will also benefit from the cover crop by reducing the potential for erosion.  The existing crop residue and cover crop reduce the force of the rain droplets and slow the overland flow.

Sod or grassed waterways improve water quality by reducing the movement of sediment and nutrients from agriculture nonpoint sources.
